Volunteer Opportunity! Gettin dirty @ UBCO

WASTE AUDIT 2010 NEEDS YOUR HELP!!!

Tuesday - October 5.. 8 am - 12:30

We are looking for volunteers who are enthusiastic about taking part in environmental initiatives on campus and
have a passion for helping the environment and raising awareness. Volunteers are expected to help for a min. of 3
hours, and ideally to stay the entire audit. The more volunteers, the less time it will take to do the audit and the
shorter the shift.

This is a fun activity that draws a lot of attention to the courtyard. Everyone who participates enjoys it and is
always surprised at what they find in the trash.

Visit http://www.facebook.com/l/2d29cw91WQx0Ao9fAKfD3Bg3N6w;www.green-step.ca to find out more about waste audits!

The "No Make-Up Challenge"

"A recent British study found that 70% of women wouldn't leave the house without their makeup tools--half of those said they wore makeup 24/7, and 40% said they'd be embarrassed to be seen without makeup in front of friends and coworkers. Ugh!" TreeHugger.com

Car Arc Concept

The Car Arc seems to be a great solution for new EV owners looking for a carport that not only protects their vehicle, but charges it too. The curvaceous structure is covered in a thin solar skin that soaks up sunlight and converts it to energy for recharging low batteries. Plus, it's a smart way to store bikes. And this is only one of several clever arc designs by the company. TreeHugger.com

Volvo Storing Energy in a Car's Body Panels

One of the main challenges with electric cars is that batteries are bulky and heavy. Volvo is trying to solve that problem by turning a car's body panels into an energy storage device, an idea that, if feasible, would kill two birds with one stone by freeing up space inside the car and making it relatively lighter. Electric Cars to Reduce Oil Consumption

According to a study by Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy, if the U.S. wants to significantly reduce its oil consumption, it should prioritize the fast adoption of electric cars over " the proposed national renewable portfolio standard". This makes a lot of sense. TreeHugger.com
