Awnings help cool down outdoors and indoors

With people spending more time outdoors on their patios and decks, they need it to be cool and comfortable. One way to do this is to install awnings at the hot spots.

Here are some details about awnings:

  • Awnings can reduce temperature by 10 to 15 degrees and it can cool the interior of the house as well.
  • If you have a west or south facing patio or windows into a room, you wouldn't have to run your air conditioner as often.
  • If you have a great view and are using drapes to keep out the heat, awnings can still give you a great view while keeping the interior cool.
  • Awnings also block out untraviolet rays which can help in the prevention of skin cancer.
  • You can get retractable awnings that work from a remote control in case you need to roll up the awnings in case of storms.
  • There are some awnings that come with a wireless sensor that can automatically extend an awning based on the sun's intensity
  • They have a lifespan of 8 to 10 years.
  • The awnings can be cleaned with a soft-bristled brush and detergent.
  • Costco has a 10 ft retractable unit listed for $1,499
